”Still life is the touchstone of painting“
Édouard Manet
Art has always been central to my life, having grown up surrounded by my mother’s paintings and drawings. As a former student of the Slade, she regularly took me to her private views and exhibitions. This introduction to art started to develop from this early stage.
I took a degree in Fine Art (BA Hons) at Sheffield School of Art. I then came to London, studied a Postgraduate Art Therapy Degree and completed a Postgraduate Certificate of Education at Middlesex University to teach art.
I’ve shown my work in solo and shared exhibitions, taught art both privately and in an educational setting. I also worked in various London art galleries and art fairs keeping alive my ongoing passion for the arts.
Lockdown brought a renewed interest in ‘still life’ for me, focusing on everyday objects as our world contracted. This interest was triggered by many images from the beautiful ‘still life’ paintings of the 1600’s such as Juan Sanchez Cotan and Francisco de Zurbaran to The Kitchen Sink artists of 1950’s all with their own vanitas devices, interpreted in my own way through the medium of drawing with coloured pencils.
I hope you enjoy looking at my work and I will be adding to it on a regular basis.
